Sandy West

Sandy West ( * July 10, 1959 in Long Beach, California as Sandra Sue Pesavento, † October 21, 2006 in San Dimas, California ) was an American singer, songwriter and drummer. She was a founding member of the female rock group The Runaways.

Life

Sandy West was born in Long Beach and grew up in Huntington Beach / California. As a typical Californian girl, she grew up between surfing and skiing. When Sandy was 15 years old, her grandfather bought her a drum. As a big fan of the rock music of the 1960s and 70s she began to play the music of their heroes and to improve their knowledge continually. Since they had a lot of talent, it was a good drummer quickly.

In addition, they possessed enough about ambition and began at the beginning of 1975 with the idea of going to play female team-mates to search for the purpose of founding a rock band. In 1975, she met producer Kim Fowley, who gave her the phone number of another young girl named Joan Jett. At the first meeting of the two, they found a mutual sympathy and Kim Fowley decided to audition. Together with Kari Krome as a songwriter, Joan Jett and Michael Steele, the original band The Runaways played a few demos in 1975, were published years later under the name of "Born To Be Bad ". Michael Steele retired from the group, but quickly were joined by the later members Lita Ford, Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox.

After four quick years with several record productions, tours and some personnel changes, the Runaways disbanded in 1979. Sandy West continued to try their luck in the rock n 'roll business, but without much success. For a while she worked as a veterinary assistant and as Barmixerin. In her free time she continued to play drums with the "Sandy West band" or the " Queens Of Noise ". Your past with the Runaways motivated them to make in her last years strong for criminalizing young people and to provide them with alternatives for a different lifestyle.

The Runaways were Sandy West's child and she never overcame the dissolution of their band.

2005 was diagnosed with lung cancer. She died on 21 October 2006 at the age of 47 years.
