The Sangro is a river in Italy some 122 km in length. It flows through the belonging to the provinces of Abruzzo L'Aquila and Chieti and a small piece through the province of Isernia in Molise.

Geography

The Sangro rises in the Apennines at an altitude of about 1600 m in the National Park of Abruzzo belonging mountain area of Monte Morrone del Diavolo. He turns first to the southeast. He is dammed for lying between Villetta Barrea Barrea and Lago de Barrea Even within the national park. The Sangro Then turns its course to the north- east and flows through Castel di Sangro, Ateleta, Quadri and Villa Santa Maria. When Bomba he is dammed to Lago di Sangro also called Lago di Bomba. A few kilometers north he takes on its largest tributary, the leading- left of Aventine. In Torino di Sangro the Sangro flows into the Adriatic Sea.

Regulation of river

The Sangro has an average water flow of about 9.2 m³ / s During the summer, its extent is greatly reduced ( 0,5-3,2 m³ / s ), while in autumn and winter often a considerable increase (maximum capacity at Ateleta: 16.2 m³ / s ) results due to heavy rains.
