Geography

Sankt Georgen an der Stiefing lies east of the Mur at the northeast edge of the field of Leibnitz in Styria.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Lappach and St. Georgen an der Stiefing.

History

The Parish Church was mentioned in documents in 1147. It forms with the castle an architectural ensemble. The local church as an autonomous body created in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955, she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 June 1994. Coat Description: Blue silver St. George on horseback with a lance a dragon lying on the back killing.
