St Johann am Tauern is located 30 km north- west of the district capital of Jews castle.

History
The municipality of St. Johann am Tauern was built in 1849 /50.

The award of the municipality coat of arms coat of arms was 1988 Description:. Red In a pending diagonally right gold, entwined with a golden banner cross staff, accompanied on the top left and bottom right of each one thrusting at the plate edges mottled golden bells flower.

Economy and infrastructure
According to Census of 2001, there are 20 workplaces with 58 employees in the community as well as 128 commuters and 20 commuters. There are 54 agricultural and forestry holdings ( including 33 in the main acquisition ), which together manage 3,356 ha (as of 1999).
