Sankt Marein at Knittel is a municipality with 1213 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district court district Mur and Jews Castle in Styria. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the community Feistritzwerke Knittelfeld, the new community will be known as ' St. Marein - Feistritzwerke ".

Geography

Sankt Marein Knittelfeld located in Styria, near the mouth of the creek Leissing in the Mur.

The municipality comprises the cadastral seizure Mountain, Greuth prank St.Marein and water Leith.

History

The village was part of the 1122 incurred Mark Styria, which was isolated in 1180 as a duchy of Bavaria, Styria. Similarly, Sankt Marein headquarters of the old aristocratic family of the von Pranckh, which had its headquarters at Castle Pranckh in Prankh. The 1140 founded here Augustinian Canons was laid already in 1142 after Seckau. As of 1192, the area was ruled by the Babenberg in personal union between Austria and Styria. From 1282 to 1918 the area was under the rule of the Habsburgs. 1849/50 the municipality St.Marein was built.

On November 6, 1918 at St. Marein came Knittel field as part of Styria, the Republic of German - Austria. After the annexation of Austria in 1938 the place came to Reichsgau Styria 1945 to 1955 he was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
