Sanlu Group

Sanlu ( Chinese:三鹿 集团; literally " three deer " ) was a Chinese producer of dairy products. The state enterprise was one of the oldest and best-known brands of infant formula in China.

According to the Chinese milk scandal in 2008 was forced to declare bankruptcy Sanlu. The dairy company Sanlu had been supplied with considerable amounts of melamine tainted milk. By adding the substance melamine milk should appear rich in protein in controls. In infants, melamine leads to kidney stones and kidney failure. In total, over 300,000 children were affected, six of them died. Four representatives of the company were sentenced to long prison terms.
