Sanmin District

Sanmin (Chinese:三民 区sanmin qū ) is a district of Kaohsiung City in Taiwan in the Republic of China.

The 19.7866 km ² large district located in the central city area Kaohsiung, surrounded by the districts of Gushan, Zuoying, Renwu, Niaosong, Fengshan, Lingya, Xinxing, Yancheng and Qianjin. End of February 2013 was sanmin with a population of 349 685 the district with the second largest population in Kaohsiung.

In the 17th century founded three families of Chinese immigrants from Fujian in the western part of present-day district a village called三块 厝( Taiwanese: Sa ⁿ - thé - Chhu, " three Homesteads "). The name has been retained over the centuries and even during the Japanese rule over Taiwan. After the transfer of Taiwan to the Republic of China, the district was expanded in 1946 and in line with the " Three People's Principles " Sun Yat-sen (Chinese:三民主义sanmin zhuyi ) renamed sanmin.

Sanmin is one of the most important transportation hubs Kaohsiung. In the district are the main railway station of Kaohsiung, which is also connected to the network of Kaohsiunger subway. In addition, the district is from Highway 1 (the Minzu Road in the city area is called ) in a north-south direction crosses, and there is a ramp to Highway No. 1

In sanmin are three universities: the Kaohsiung Medical University, the University of Applied Science and Technology Kaohsiung and Ursulinische Wenzao - language university.

Through the region flows the Love River, surrounded on both sides with walking and bike paths. Additional area attractions include the Museum of Science and Technology, the temple Sanfeng Gong and the Jinshi Lake.
