Sanpete County, Utah

Sanpete County is a county located in the state of Utah in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Manti, the largest city is Ephrahim with 4,500 inhabitants.

Geography

Sanpete County covers an area of 4151 square kilometers (1603 mi ²), of which 38 square kilometers of water. East of the County is bordered by the Wasatch Plateau. It reaches heights up to 3300 m. The largest part of the Wasatch Plateau is surrounded by the Manti -La Sal National Forest. The county is bordered clockwise to the County: Utah County, Carbon County, Emery County, Sevier County, Millard County and Juab County.

Attractions

The Huntington / Eccles Canyon National Scenic Byway runs from Fairview to Huntington via the main highway 31, this part very windy portion reaches heights of over 3,300 m. Snow in June / July there is still possible.

According to the census of 2000, there were 22,763 people in Sanpete County. There were 6,547 households and 5,067 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.43 % White, 0.31 % African American, 0.87 % Native American, 0.48 % Asian, 0.36 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 4.06 % from other races groups; 1.49% were descended from two or more races. 6.63 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 6,547 households out of which 43.40 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 67.00 % were married couples living together, 7.20 % had a female householder with no husband. 22.60 % were non-families. 17.80% of all households and 10.10% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.27 and the average family size was 3.68 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 33.20 % under the age of 18, 16.40 % from 18 to 24, 21.80% from 25 to 44 years, 17.80% between 45 and 64 years and 10.80% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 25 years. For every 100 females there were 102.40 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.90 males.

The median income for a household was $ 33,042, and the median income for a family was $ 37,796. Males have a median income of $ 30,527, women $ 19,974. The per capita income was $ 12,442. 15.90% of the population and 10.40 % of families are below the poverty line. 13.90% of those under age 18 and 9.60% were 65 years or older.
