The municipality of Santa Cruz covers 28 km ², and has 7,224 inhabitants. It is the seat of the homonymous district, which includes four other municipalities. In Santa Cruz, is the international airport of Madeira.

In green a silver Stufenkreuz of two golden vine leaves accompanied. On each sheet is a blue wine grape, which is covered by a Quinas. Above the shield a silver five towers mural crown. In the white band at the sign foot of the place name in black letters " SANTA CRUZ ".

Council Santa Cruz

The circle ( município ) Santa Cruz is 81.5 km ² and comprises 43,000 inhabitants (as of 30 June 2011). It borders to the counties Santana and Machico to the north, in the west Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. It also includes the Deserted Islands and is divided into five municipalities ( Freguesias ):

  • Camacha
  • Canico
  • Gaula
  • Santa Cruz (including the Deserted Islands )
  • Santo António da Serra

The entire county is experiencing a significant increase in population, as many residents of Funchal are drawn due to the favorable rents in the past few years here.
