Santa Cruz Mountains AVA

Santa Cruz Mountains AVA ( recognized since 1982) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California and is part of the regional Central Coast AVA. The area is in the region of the Santa Cruz Mountains and covers the three administrative units of Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County and San Mateo County, all of which are part of the San Francisco Bay Area.

In the past, the vineyards were multiple victims of the Vine disease Pierce Disease.

Geography and climate

The vineyard area is bounded on one side by the Santa Cruz Mountains and to the north of Half Moon Bay. The vineyards lie at an altitude of 120 to 250 m above sea level. NN.

Wineries

The region achieved a worldwide reputation, as in the wine jury of Paris in 1976 two wineries of the Santa Cruz Mountains among the top ten companies were selected worldwide. For one, it was a white wine made from Chardonnay Vintage 1973 David Bruce Winery ( rank 10 of the whites ) and a red wine of the vintage in 1971 by de Montebello Ridge Vineyards (Rank 5 of the red wines ).
