Santa Eulalia de Oscos

Santa Eulalia de Oscos is a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain.

Location

The community is bounded by Villanueva de Oscos in the north, the east, from San Martín de Oscos and Granda de Salime in the west and in the south of Lugo.

History

Finds from the Stone Age confirm the early settlement of the region. In the neighboring communities also bear testimony of burial mounds and several hill forts of the colonization by the Gallaeker and Asturians. The first mention was in 1154, in ecclesiastical documents. In 1584 the church became an independent parish.

Geology

Land

The predominantly of limestone and shale underground with the Pousadoiro ( 948 m) as highest point is typical of the region.

Waters

The municipality is crossed by Río Agüeira.

Climate

As in many parts of Asturias there by proximity to the Gulf Stream here an almost Mediterranean climate with warm dry summers but cold winters ago, in the fall it comes sometimes to relatively strong storms.

Economy

As in many parts of Asturias, agriculture is the largest source of income here. Due to the large forests of the forests are managed very active here. Trade and production takes place only in medium-sized companies. Famous the region is famous for its cheese production.
