The Santa Fe County is a county located in the state of New Mexico in the United States. It is in the north of the state and has 144 170 inhabitants. The largest city is Santa Fe with 67 947 inhabitants.
Geography
The County has a land area of 4944 square miles and a water area of 4 square kilometers. The County is slightly smaller than the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The highest peak of the Santa Fe County with 3,847 meters of Santa Fe Baldy. The county borders in New Mexico in a clockwise direction to the counties: Rio Arriba County, Mora County, San Miguel County, Torrance County, Bernalillo County, Sandoval County and Los Alamos County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 129 292 people in the county. There were 52 482 households and 32 801 families. The population density was 26 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 73.52 % White, 0.64 % African American, 3.08 % Native American, 0.88 % Asian, 0.07 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 17.74 % from other races groups; 4.07% were descended from two or more races. 49.04 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 52 482 households out of which 30.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 45.50 % were married couples living together, 11.70 % had a female householder with no husband. 37.50 % were non-families. 29.40 % of all households and 7.40% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.01.
