Santa Maria a Vico

Santa Maria a Vico is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 14,203 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. The municipality borders the province of Benevento. It is located about 12 kilometers southeast of Caserta, 27 km north-east of Naples and 29 kilometers west of Benevento.

History

Santa Maria a Vico is a foundation of the Second Samnite War Roman ( Vicus Novanensis ). Later on a changing station on the Via Appia (Ad Novas ) was established. With the decline of the Roman Empire the town was destroyed by the barbarians. The heyday of the place as a market in the Kingdom of Naples.

Traffic

Passing through the municipality, the Strada Statale 7 from Maddaloni to Benevento. A train station is served by trains on the railway line Benevento - Cancello.

Community partnerships

Santa Maria a Vico maintains partnerships with the Spanish town of Caspe in the province of Zaragoza and with the French town of Gaillac in the Tarn department.
