Santa Maria di Licodia
Santa Maria di Licodia is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 7377 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Santa Maria di Licodia located 28 km northwest of Catania on the southern slopes of Mount Etna. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture.
The neighboring municipalities are Bianca Villa, Paternò and Ragalna.
History
In 1160 here was a Benedictine abbey. The village developed in the context of this abbey.
