The Santa Monica Mountains are a mountain range north of Santa Monica in Southern California. The mountain range extends over 64 km in the east-west direction from Point Mugu in Ventura County to the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles. On the back of the mountain chain runs of Mulholland Drive.

The highest elevations of the Santa Monica Mountains are the Sandstone Peak, also known as Mount Allan, with 948 m and the Tri-Peaks with 917 m. The ecosystem of the mountain is home to a wide variety of species, including rainbow trout and the Puma. A part of the mountain is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, a National Recreation Area ( recreation area of National importance ).

In the Santa Monica Mountains there are over 1,000 archaeological sites, most of the Tongva and Chumash to.

Mount Lee

In the mountain range of the Santa Monica Mountains is also the most photographed mountain in California, Mount Lee, on the south side of the Hollywood sign is mounted. Next to it is a radio tower at the highest point.
