Santa Ynez is a census -designated place in Santa Barbara County in California. Santa Ynez (named after the Holy Agnes ) is one of the five settlements in the Santa Ynez Valley. In the settlement live in the prior census 2010 4428 people.

Population

The Santa Ynez Valley was early populated by the Chumash Indians, who now have their last Reserve in Santa Ynez. According to the state of the 2010 Census living in Santa Ynez 85.9 percent White, 14.5 percent of Latin Americans ( Latinos ), 5.3 percent Native American, 1.2 percent Asian and 0.3 percent African American. The number of households was 1,741, while the median age of the population was 47.8 years, which is above the California average. For every 100 females 96.3 males.

Economy

As in the entire Santy Ynez Valley is mainly operated in Santa Ynez wine growing.

The Chumash operate on their reserve also the Chumash Casino, (eg boxing ) for tourists is interesting not only because of gambling, but also because of larger events.

Two kilometers south-east of the city lies the public Santa Ynez Valley Airport.
