Santiago Copello

Santiago Luis Copello Cardinal ( born January 7, 1880 in San Isidro ( Buenos Aires ), Argentina, † February 9, 1967 in Rome) was archbishop of Buenos Aires.

Life

Santiago Luis Copello received his theological and philosophical education in the seminary of La Plata and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He received on 28 October 1902, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a pastor in various parishes of the Archdiocese of La Plata.

1918 Pope Benedict XV appointed him. Titular Bishop of Aulon and Auxiliary Bishop of La Plata. Pope Pius XI. appointed him in 1928 as Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires. In the same year, Santiago Luis Copello took over as vicar general management of the administration of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires and was Military Vicar of Argentina. In 1932 he became Archbishop of Buenos Aires, on December 16, 1935 it took the Pope a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Girolamo dei Croati ( degli Schiavoni ) in the College of Cardinals to. Copello was the first Argentine cardinal. In 1936 he granted him the title of Primate of Argentina.

Santiago Luis Copello cardinal represented the Pope at numerous celebrations as Papal Legate.
