Santiago Oñate Laborde

Santiago Oñate Laborde ( born in 1949 in Mexico City) is a Mexican lawyer and politician of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI ).

Life

Santiago Oñate Laborde studied at the London School of Economics and Social Sciences and the University of Wisconsin.

He had in the PRI party held various offices and was a member of the Mexican government. In 1985 he was elected to the Mexican Chamber of Deputies ( Camara de Deputies ), and was the end of his term from 1998, the Legislative Assembly of the Mexican capital region. In 1991 and 1992 he was Ambassador to the Organization of American States, 1993, he headed the Office of the Environmental Prosecutor ( Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Medio Ambiente or PROFEPA ). In 1995 he was nominated as chairman of his party PRI. He led the President's Office ( Oficina de la Presidencia ) of Mexican President Carlos Salinas. President Ernesto Zedillo appointed him to the labor and social affairs minister. Later, he was ambassador to Britain and the Netherlands.
