Santiago Segura

Santiago Segura Silva ( born July 17, 1965 in Madrid ) is a Spanish actor, director, producer and screenwriter who has become in his home in particular by Torrente tetralogy known abroad rather for his roles in films directed by Álex de la Iglesia.

Biography

Childhood and youth

Santiago Segura Silva was born in the district of Carabanchel, Madrid. At 14, he bought at a flea market a 8mm camera, with which he began to turn a three-minute short films that played in his district. His 8mm works he filmed in chronological order, since he did not have to cut about the possibilities.

With his first extended work of Relatos de la Media Noche he took 100,000 pts in youth cinema of Valencia. one. With a total budget of 7,000 pts. he realized that cinema could be a profitable business.

Career

He turned now to 35mm his first three short films that were released on VHS along with some 8mm works. To fund the 35mm works, he did participate in a large number of television shows like No te rias que peor it or Locos por la tele, worked as a waiter and books sold on doors, while he studied art at the same time. During this time he also dedicated himself to the comics and created together with his friend Jose Antonio Calvo Pequeñas Viciosas the series for the magazine El Vibora.

He participated in many film festivals and got to know each other under Álex de la Iglesia. About him he got his role in Mutant Action (1992). He played several small roles in other films and got again by Álex de la Iglesia his first major role; the seller in a death metal record store José Mari El día de la Bestia. For the role he received the Spanish Goya Film Awards 1996.

From this role to his fame in Spain rose from roll to roll, until he with his own feature film Torrente - created the hitherto most successful film at the Spanish box office Stupid Arm of the Law. In addition, he again won the Goya for best director in 1999. After Torrente 2 got Segura first roles in big-budget Hollywood productions (Blade II and Hellboy ) by his friend Guillermo del Toro.
