Santurtzi

Santurtzi [ san'tuɾtsi ] (Basque ) or Santurce [ san'tuɾθe ] ( Spanish) is a city in the Greater Bilbao in the Spanish Basque Country.

Geography

Santurtzi is located on the Bilbao estuary, just 14 km from Bilbao, near the coast of the Gulf of Biscay to 6 m above sea level. The city area is 6.8 km ², a population density of 6945 inhabitants per km ². Just off the city is 446 m high, emblematic cone-shaped mountain Serantes.

The climate is maritime temperate with summers and mild winters, the average temperature is 20 ° C in summer and 8 ° C in winter.

History

Santurtzi was in 1075 first mentioned (foundation of the church of San Jorge ).
