Sanzhi District

Sanzhi (Chinese三芝 区, pinyin Sanzhi Qū, PEH oē - jī Sam chi Khu ) is a village on the coast of the strait district of the city of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan.

Location and meaning

Sanzhi bordered to the northwest by the Taiwan Strait, southwest, northeast and east by the neighboring districts Tamsui, Shimen and Jinshan and on the south by the Taiwanese capital of Taipei. The district is rural and has one for the city of New Taipei comparatively low population density. In addition to agriculture, coastal tourism is a major industry. Attraction for visitors is mainly the sandy beach of Qianshuiwan.

Famous sons of the village are the former Taiwanese President Lee Teng- hui (* 1923) and Professor of Medicine Tu Tsung- ming ( 1893-1986 ).
