Sapientza (Greek Σαπιέντζα ( f sg ), Italian Sapienza ) is an uninhabited Greek island off the southwest coast of the Peloponnese peninsula. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea about 2 km south of the port city of Methoni ( Messinia ) and is one of the Inousses within the Ionian Islands.
One of the oldest forests ( 15,000 years) of the Mediterranean is here.
On the east side of Sapientza a weather- sheltered anchorage ( Baia Longos ) is with traces of ancient branches; these were once inhabited by pirates.
At the southernmost point of the island offers a 26 m high octagonal lighthouse for ships from west anfahrende a widely visible beacon.
