Sappi Limited is a global operating company in the pulp and paper industry South African origin. Headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company is divided into three main business segments: Sappi Fine Paper, Sappi Forest Products and Sappi Trading. It employs approximately 16,000 people worldwide.

History

Sappi was founded in December 1936 as South African Pulp and Paper Industries Limited. From this name, minus the Gesellschafts-/Rechtsform Limited, is derived from the initials of her today essentially common and since the name change in 1973 officially guided Name " Sappi ". The first paper and pulp mill was built near Springs in South Africa. 1980 Sappi Timber Products division was formed to specialize in the sawmill area. Through numerous acquisitions Sappi has grown into a global player in the securities market. Thus, the German paper manufacturer Hannover in 1992 bought the paper and incorporated into the Group. This made Sappi overnight, one of the largest European manufacturers of coated woodfree paper. In 1997 the acquisition of KNP Leykam with plants in Belgium, the Netherlands (formerly KNP ) and Austria (formerly Leykam ). 2002, the company acquired the business for coated fine papers of the Potlatch Corporation. The Group is listed on the stock exchanges of New York and Johannesburg.

Sappi is now the largest employer in Gratkorn, Mandeni and Alfeld (Leine).

On 29 September 2008 the company announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire the business area coated graphic paper of M -real - with the exception of M-real's business in South Africa - known. Company structure and product range

Sappi produces coated fine paper and chemical cellulose. The company pursues its business through three divisions: Sappi Fine Paper, Sappi Forest Products and Sappi Trading.

Sappi Fine Paper is in turn managed through three regional business units: Sappi Fine Paper North America, Sappi Fine Paper Europe and Sappi Fine Paper South Africa. Sappi Fine Paper has manufacturing and marketing facilities in North America, Europe, South Africa and Asia. The company produces coated graphic and technical papers, coated and uncoated specialty papers, films or release papers for the production of artificial leather and polyurethane for the coating.

Sappi Forest Products, based in South Africa manufactures bulk materials for the paper industry, pulp, chemical pulp and forestry and wood products for South Africa and for export.

The company sells its products to distributors, further manufacturing, printing companies, publishing houses and other direct customers.
