Saquarema

Saquarema is a district ( municipality ) in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Saquarema is located in the coastal region of the lakes about 100 km from Rio de Janeiro has 63 232 inhabitants (2006) and has beautiful beaches (such as Barra Nova, Boqueirão, Itaúna, Jaconé, Vilatur ) and the city beach in the town of Vila ( Saquarema ) with the best conditions for surfing because of the high swell.

The city lives mainly from tourism and is also known as the capital of surfing, which hosts a regular national and international competitions in surfing.

In 2003, a great volleyball center was opened. The center trains the national selection of Brazil.
