Sara Danius

Sara Maria Danius ( born April 5, 1962 in Taby ) is a Swedish literary scholar.

Life

Sara Danius is the daughter of a professional officer and a writer. She studied philology at the University of Stockholm and wrote already during their studies literary critical contributions to the daily Dagens Nyheter. She received in 1989 a Master of Arts in Critical Theory at the University of Nottingham. Danius is married to Stefan Jonsson since 1989. She has trained as a croupier. In 1997 she received her doctorate at Duke University and in 1999 at the University of Uppsala. Danius was invited in 2001/ 02 as a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study Berlin.

Danius is Professor of Aesthetics at Södertörn University College ( Södertörns högskola ) and has a lectureship in Literature at the University of Uppsala.

Since 2010 Danius is a member of the Royal Swedish Gelehrsamkeits, history and antiques Academy. In March 2013 it was decided to order Danius from December 20, 2013 as the successor of the late Knut Ahnlund a member of the Swedish Academy. It will say in in the eighteen -member board about the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2014.

Danius has published Marcel Proust, Gustave Flaubert and James Joyce.
