History

Sarafovo was 1921-1922, when the first cottages were constructed by Bulgarian refugees from Eastern and Western Thrace (see Thracian Bulgarians ). During this time, Burgas constituted the largest refugee city dar. On August 28, 1922 Sarafovo has been recognized within the district Pomorie as a separate place and was named in 1929 after the architect Sarafow who planned the layout of the place with large avenues and many parks.

As of November 12, 1987, the town was incorporated into the city of Bourgas and received the status of a district.

In February 2012 came with a storm surge of the sea north of Sarafovo a Roman settlement to light. This is to be exposed and explored in the coming years. The first excavations in the spring of 2012 are led by the Ljudmil Wagalinski, director of the National Archaeological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and financially supported by the Bulgarian government.
