Sarah Miles

Sarah Miles ( born December 31, 1941 in Ingatestone, Essex ) is a British actress.

Life

Sarah Miles began at the age of 15 years studying acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Her film debut was in 1962 in playing with the fate directed by Peter Glenville alongside Laurence Olivier and Simone Signoret. For her dramatic performance in 1963 she received a nomination for the British Film Academy Award in the category " Most Promising Newcomer in a Leading Role ", the prize went to Tom Courtenay. The theater actress took in the following years only selected film roles. In 1964 she received for the film based on the play by Harold Pinter, The Servant by Joseph Losey another nomination for the British Film Award. In 1971 she was nominated for her portrayal of Ryan's daughter in David Lean's eponymous melodrama for an Oscar. In 1973, she played the title role in embassy for Lady Franklin; the film won the Grand Prize of the International Film Festival of Cannes in the same year. In the published 1978 crime film The Big Sleep, a remake of The Big Sleep, played it, as in Ryan's daughter the female lead again on the side of Robert Mitchum.

Sarah Miles was twice married to the British playwright and screenwriter Robert Bolt, from 1967 to 1975 and from 1988 until his death in 1995.
