Saraphi District

Amphoe Saraphi ( in Thai: สารภี ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) of the province of Chiang Mai. The Chiang Mai province is located in the northern region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from west clockwise): the Amphoe Hang Dong, Mueang Chiang Mai, San Kamphaeng Chiang Mai province, as well as Mueang Lamphun Lamphun Province.

History

The district was ( ยาง เนิ้ ง ) founded in 1891 under the name Yang Noeng. In 1927 it was renamed in Saraphi.

Attractions

  • Wiang Kum Kam - historical archaeological site located about five kilometers south of the city of Chiang Mai. Here lived King Meng Rai the Great before he founded Chiang Mai.

Management

The circle is divided into twelve subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 105 villages ( Muban ).

Yang Noeng has a small-town status ( thesaban tambon) and covers parts of tambon Yang Noeng, Saraphi and Nong Phung.

In addition, there are ten " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
