Sarasvati River

Sarasvati (Sanskrit सरस्वती Sarasvatī f ) is in Vedism and Hinduism the name of a mythological river and a goddess. In addition, there was also a river of the same name, whose localization is disputed.

In the Rigveda desa of the river Sarasvati is also celebrated as the goddess of the same name.

Thus we read:

She broke with fury like a root -digger back of the mountains with the mighty waves on. Sarasvati, defends against the foreigners, we would like to ask for mercy with hymns, prayers.

In verse 14 of the same section states:

Sarasvati! Escort us to happiness; not deprive yourself! Do not let us come short of your milk (water)! Rejoice our friendship and our communities cooperative. Do not we want to go away from you in foreign countries!

In the hymn to the rivers are 18 rivers, interestingly, in order from east to west, then listed from north to south, with their Rigvedic names. Among them, it is primarily the Sindu ( Indus ) and its tributaries (including the Sarasvati ), which are praised by the singers because of their volume of water.

Tectonic shifts in the river should be gradually silted up. It is believed that this was the Ghaggar - Hakra meant with the most mentions ..
