The hydropower plant Saratov (Russian Саратовская ГЭС ), also known as Lenin Komsomol, is a hydroelectric power plant on the Volga. It is located in the Saratov Oblast near the town Balakowo and is fed from the Saratov reservoir. The hydroelectric power plant is part of the Volga - Kama cascade. Specifications

The core area of the hydropower plant consists of a 1260 m long and 40 m high man-made dam. This dam is flanked by a 14 -kilometer-long embankment. The combined dam construction dams on the Volga River and forms the Saratov reservoir.

The power plant has a capacity of 1,360 MW. Today, the power plant consists of 21 machines worldwide, including 21 with rotor blades ( each 60 MW), two with horizontal turbines ( 45 MW ) and a small generator with 10 MW at the fish ladder.

Power lines

The 500 kV lines from the Saratov hydroelectric plant for nuclear power plant Balakowo cross the Volga with a 1.6 -kilometer span. The mast at the power station is 159 meters, on the east bank of the Volga River 197 meters high and the tallest pylon in Russia.
