Saratov Reservoir

The Saratov Reservoir is a reservoir on the Volga River in the European part of Russia. He is part of the so-called Volga - Kama cascade and feeds the hydroelectric plant Saratov.

Geography

The reservoir extends on the lower Volga to 230 km between Samara and the dam at Balakowo and is 1831 km ² large at 12.9 billion cubic meters of storage space. This makes it one of the largest of the Earth. The shut-off a 14 -kilometer-long earthen wall and the actual dam of reinforced concrete of the Saratov hydroelectric station with a length of 1260 m and a height of up to 40 m.

After Samara, located near the mouth of the stream into the lake, Sysran is the largest city on the lakeshore.
