Sarchinger Weiher

The Sarchinger pond has a water surface area of about 28 hectares and is located southeast of the village Sarching in the eastern district of Regensburg. The lake was created from a former gravel pit, which was also used particularly in the expansion of the A3 motorway in the area of Regensburg for the construction work. Its present form has the lake since about the 1970s. Originally there were two lakes, separated by a narrow causeway, which ran east-west direction. This dam was then partially removed, so that the island was created and the lake got its present form. There are other smaller lakes, which are also due to gravel extraction in the area.

At the north-west, north-east and south-western shore there are several Sandaufschüttungen to create their own shallow areas for children. On these shores sections also kiosks, toilets and fireplaces official for barbecue parties with campfire are available. The entire waterfront is otherwise overgrown with shrubs and trees, so that shade are always abundantly present in the rule.

An official nudist area there is not at this lake. However, one place at less visited and less accessible shore sections occasional "wild" nude bathers. This is usually tolerated.

In the southern half, approximately in the middle of the lake, there is a small island, which has increasingly become a breeding area for rare birds in recent years and decades. Here you can, inter alia, find the Night Heron. The island may be entered but still.

Concerts

In the period from 1977 to 1997 were held on Sarchinger pond, usually on the south bank, regular open-air concerts. In 2008, this tradition has been revived.
