Sarcosaurus ( "flesh lizard" ) is a genus previously theropod dinosaurs ( Theropoda ) from the Lower Jurassic of England.

Since he is only known from a fragmentary skeleton of an adult individual, little is known about its appearance only a little. He is often depicted in reconstructions with a nose horn, similar to Ceratosaurus. However, since no skull material has been discovered, such images are speculations. The estimated size is specified in the literature, with values ​​between three and four meters.

Charles William Andrews published 1921 on the basis of a thigh bone ( femur), vertebrae ( vertebra ) and the first description of an incomplete pelvis of the genus and named the type species Sarcosaurus woodi.
