Sardinia Radio Telescope

The Sardinia Radio Telescope is a radio telescope near San Basilio in the Province of Cagliari in Sardinia (Italy ), which was completed in August 2012.

The primary mirror of the telescope has a diameter of 64 meters and is therefore in accordance with the Radio Telescope Effelsberg (100 meters ) and the Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory ( 76 meters), the third largest radio telescope in Europe. The telescope was designed and built by the company MT Mechatronics GmbH. Responsible authority and for the subsequent operation of the plant is the Istituto di Radioastronomia di Bologna. Also involved in the project are the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR ) and the Istituto Nazionale per l' Astrofisica ( INAF ).
