Sargans

Sargans ( stress on the second syllable) is a municipality and a historical town in the Sargans Canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland.

Geography

The lowest point is the railway station at an altitude of 480 m above sea level. Level, the highest point of the municipality is located on the Gonzen at an altitude of 1,830 m above sea level. M.. Community belongs to the northeast hamlet on Vild.

Sargans today transport hub, regional commercial and cultural center and educational center with several schools.

Name

The name is mentioned as Sargans Senegaune later than Sangans and from the 15th century as Sargans in 765. A pretty legend explains it thus, the yet-unnamed residents had a child to the river Saar sent in the plane with the desire to her place after the animal to designate which would then swim. It was a goose ... Etymologically, things are slightly different: Sargans is composed as a Celtic name from the personal name Sanucus and the suffix - anes. The meaning is: the place where the stem of the Sanucus lives.

History

The past and present of Sargans is determined has always been through the traffic. A «double the Alps » with access from the Seez and Rhine Valley, there are prehistoric, Roman, medieval and modern settlements tracks together in a confined space. Sarganser Medieval Days

Canton school

Sargans has a district school, founded in 1963 as the first Country Middle School of the Canton of St. Gallen, which also offers economic middle school and secondary vocational education qualifications in addition to the high school. Not far from the Canton School is the Regional Sports complex ( RSA), which is open for school sport, particularly members of sports clubs and events, and represents a regional meeting place. Traffic

Sargans is a transportation hub, as to unite two valleys here. The road here is a motorway junction with the A3 and A13. In rail transport, meets in Sargans station the railway bridge brick -Sargans on the railway line from Chur to St. Margrethen.
