Sarganserland

The constituency Sarganserland is a subunit of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland, which was formed after the new cantonal constitution of 10 June 2001 1 January 2003.

Geography

The constituency is identical to the existing county Sargans and extends across the southeastern part of the canton of St. Gallen.

History

The Sarganserland is a historically grown cultural region with its own identity. Determinative ( 15th century - 18th ) ( 13th century - 15th ) or to the federal bailiwick Sargans Common rule of the Confederation was the membership of the former county Sargans. 1803 Sarganserland was beaten to the newly formed Canton of St. Gallen. The Sarganserland is still an independent, politically, economically and culturally strong Canton region.
