Sarkin Haoussa

Sarkin Haoussa (also: Sarki Haoussa, Serkin Haoussa ) is a rural municipality in the Department Mayahi in Niger.

Geography

Sarkin Haoussa lies in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Attantané the northwest, Mayahi in the northeast, Aguie the southeast, Tchadoua in the south, SAE Saboua in the southwest and Maïyara in the West. On the border with Attantané Wadi Goulbi N'Kaba runs. The municipality is divided into 56 administrative villages, 31 hamlets and 15 stock. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Sarkin Haoussa (also: Serkin Haoussa ).

History

Before the arrival of the French at the turn of the 19th to 20th century Sarkin Haoussa belonged to the independent state Gobir. The rural community of Sarkin Haoussa went as an administrative unit 2002 through the course of a nationwide administrative reform from the southwestern part of the canton Mayahi. The administrative village Maïssakoni was affected by the floods in West and Central Africa 2010: 154 villagers were classified as disaster victims.

Population

At the 2001 census Sarkin Haoussa had 54 438 inhabitants. For the year 2010 73.537 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture. By Sarkin Haoussa the National Road 19, which connects the village with the neighboring communities Mayahi and Tchadoua runs.
