Sartell is a city ( with a status of "City" ) in Stearns County and to a lesser extent in Benton County in the center of the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010 Sartell had 15,876 inhabitants.

Geography

Sartell is located on both sides of the Mississippi River upstream of the confluence of the Sauk River at 45 ° 18'54 " north latitude and 93 ° 58'47 " west longitude. The city covers 26.03 km ², spread over 25.38 km ² land and 0.65 km ² water surface.

Neighboring cities of Sartell are St. Cloud ( on the southern city limits ) Waite Park (9.4 km south), St. Joseph (13,4 km southwest), St. Stephen (13,2 km to the northwest ) and Sauk Rapids ( at the southeastern outskirts ).

Traffic

A few kilometers southwest of Sartell extends Interstate 94, which runs from the Twin Cities to the northwest and then to the west. History

After the region was originally inhabited by Indians of the Dakota and the Ojibwa, settled in the middle of the 19th century in the region of today's the first white settlers down. One of them was Joseph B. Sartell, in 1854 settled here. After he worked as a laborer in a sawmill, in 1877 he built his own grain mill at a nearby river. In 1884 Sartell founded with his sons Sartell Brothers Lumber Company.

Between 1905 and 1907 a dam was built on the Mississippi, had been used as the energy of the same paper mill erected Watab Pulp and Paper Company. The paper mill, which today for Verso Paper Corp.. heard was and has been the largest employer in the city.
