Sartilly

Sartilly is a commune with 1560 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Manche in Basse-Normandie region. Sartilly is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the Canton of Sartilly.

In Sartilly is located in the cemetery a monument to Théophile Maupas, one of the Caporaux de Souain, who were executed as an example of a mutiny during the First World War. This monument was erected in 1925, even before the Corporal on March 3, 1934 rehabilitated. The incident of Caporaux de Souain has significant parallels to the novel Paths of Glory (Original Title: Paths of Glory ) by Humphrey Cobb. On the basis of this novel of the same name movie by Stanley Kubrick was born.

Infrastructure

Sartilly is situated on the D973 between Granville and Avranches. Being close to the sea ( about 5 km distance), tourism is a major industry. So there are four hotels in the resort and in the local area, many apartments.
