Sasebo, Nagasaki
Sasebo (Japanese佐世保 市, -shi) is a city in Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū in Japan.
Geography
Sasebo is located north of Nagasaki and west of Fukuoka.
To the west is the East China Sea, south of the Sasebo Bay and behind this the Omura Bay.
History
Sasebo was established in 1902. On 29 June 1945, the city, which at that time numbered 206 000 inhabitants, was destroyed by an American air attack to 48 %. On 31 March 2010, the northern towns Emukae and Shikamachi were incorporated in Kitamatsuura -gun to Sasebo.

Economy
Economically significant are next ship, machinery or fishing; also Sasebo is an important naval base.
Attractions
- Opposite the main railway station rises in the Miura -chō district built in 1930 in the Neo-Gothic style and widely visible church Seishin, the landmark Sasebo. Sasebo is the only city in Japan, whose symbol is a Christian church.
- The archipelago Kujukushima is the easiest to reach from the fishing port Ainoura, which is a few kilometers northwest of the center of Sasebo.
