The Sassandra is a river in the west of Ivory Coast. It is formed ( between Odienné and Boundiali ), and the Gouan (also known as Bafing Sud), in the mountains of Guinea has its origin in the west from the Tienba River, which rises in the highlands in the north of Ivory Coast. The Sassandra - river flows towards south- south-west to the Atlantic. The Buyo Dam was constructed on the middle stretch of the river in 1980, below the confluence with the Nzo River.
