Sassen-Trantow

Sassen - Trantow is a municipality in the district Pomerania Vorpommern - Greifswald in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). It belongs to the Office Peenetal / Loitz, which has its headquarters in the city Loitz.

The community Sassen - Trantow was formed on 1 January 2005 from the defunct, formerly independent communities of Sassen and Trantow.

Geography

The municipality Sassen - Trantows extends from the middle Peenetal in the south for over a Peene parallel, low terminal moraine across the valley to the swingarm also. In the north, the district borders the district Sassen Vorpommern - Rügen. The valleys of the Peene and the swingarm are designated as nature reserves, where among other things, beavers are found. The broad valley of only minimal slope having Peene is lined with many small lakes that have emerged from Torfstichen. The cities of Pomerania and Greifswald are located approximately 15 km from Sassen - Trantow.

History

From the early settlement of the area between Peene and Greifswald Stone graves as the Großdolmen Damerow or the megalithic tombs of Pustow between the rocker and the area now called Sassen.

The old manor house was built as a half-timbered building in 1724 and then in 1865 replaced by a new one in the Tudor style of yellow brick. The estate was owned by mostly middle-class families from Greifswald, which were often ennobled as a " nouveau riche ". The park is a baroque chapel, and the park was originally created in baroque forms.

In GDR times, the VEB Kühlautomat ran a summer camp operating in the district.

The village Sassen is a creation of the 14th century, dates from this time also the stone church of the village.

The village Trantow emerged in 1267 as Trintowe first time in a document on, the village church was built around 1400. In the Thirty Years' War the entire area was depopulated by looting, plague and famine. The desert village sites were gradually repopulated again. The furnished 1616-1618 of the Pomeranian Dowager Duchess Sophia Hedwig domain was leased in 1804 by Ludwig Arndt, the father of Ernst Moritz Arndt. On the poet's stay a memorial stone in Trantow. Two Neuansiedlungswellen occurred in the mid-19th century and in the 1930s in the area around Sassen and Trantow. Trantow one of the first quality Rauf settlements in Western Pomerania at all. The Peene meadows of Trantow were used until 1961 for peat extraction. Peat until then was particularly used by the residents for heating. Today, the meadows are predominantly in the field of nature conservation.

Many structures of these Aufsiedlungen are still visible; so the whole manor ensemble in the district Vierow example, completely intact.

Transport links

From the main road 194 at Loitz lead two separate roads by Sassen and Trantow Dersekow on the main road 96 and in the Hanseatic city of Greifswald. The new Federal Highway 20 ( Baltic Sea motorway Stralsund - Neubrandenburg ) runs north and northeast of the community. The nearest train stations are in Greifswald, Demmin and Pomerania.
