Sassoferrato

Sassoferrato is a town ( comune ) with 7499 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ancona in the Marche. The municipality is situated approximately 56 km west-southwest of Ancona and about 52 kilometers north-east of Perugia, on the eastern side of the Apennine Mountains at Monte Strega. It is part of the Comunità montana dell'Esino Frasassi, bordering the province of Pesaro and Urbino and Perugia.

History

Sassoferrato Near the ancient town Sentinum. Here defeated 295 BC in the third Samnite War, the Romans, the Samnites and senones. The city was destroyed 41 BC by a general of Augustus in the wake of the Civil War. However, it has recently directed again soon.

Traffic

Together with the neighboring municipality of Arcevia is a railway station on the railway line from Urbino to Fabriano.
