Satellite Sentinel Project

The Satellite Sentinel Project ( SSP) was founded by George Clooney with John Prendergast, co-founder of the Enough Project, conceived during a visit of South Sudan in October 2010. It combines the analysis of satellite photos and advice with Google 's Map Maker technology. Also, conventional video recordings are used. This is to prevent a new flare up of the Civil War in South Sudan.

The SSP has been able to confirm the complete destruction of the villages Maker Abior, Todach and Tajale in the disputed Abyei area first. The project has handed over evidence of war crimes of the regime in Khartoum in Abjei claims to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the UN Security Council for consideration.

The project has been created through the collaboration of Not On Our Watch, the Enough Project, Google, the training and research institute of the United Nations ( UNITAR ), the UNOSAT program, DigitalGlobe, the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and Trellon.

Not On Our Watch, the initial capital provided and helps with management reports and analyzes of the political situation to the project. UNITAR and UNOSAT analyze the satellite images. They work together with Google and Trellon to create the web platform. DigitalGlobe provides satellite imagery and additional analysis.

The Satellite Sentinel Project is the first public project that aims to systematically explore potential crises and security risks along a boundary within just 24-36 hours and publish the data. The aim is to prevent humanitarian disasters.
