Satipo Province

The Satipo Province is the largest and easternmost province in the Junín region of Peru. Provincial capital is the city Satipo; are both named after the river, which flows into the Amazon in the north of the province.

Seen from the coastal city of Lima from Satipo is on the other side of the Andes, in the temperate climate of the jungle " Selva Central". To reach the ever green hills of Satipo, it is in ten hours by bus to cross a 4800 meter high pass. Flight connections exist only for the military and the drug police.

In times of economic crisis in 1929 Satipo became the target of Austrian immigrants - from Vienna, Upper and Lower Austria, Burgenland, Styria and Carinthia from - which there founded the colony of "Villa Flavia ".

In the 80s and early 90s Satipo was partially controlled by members of the Shining Path ( Sendero Luminoso ). The destruction of families and economic structures in Satipo still felt today.
