The Sauber C24 was a Formula 1 racing car, the Sauber Motorsport began in the 2005 Formula 1 World Championship.

Development history and technology

Like the Sauber Formula 1 racing cars of the years before that, the C24 by Willy Rampf was constructed. The car had very narrow sidepods, a completely new rear car and into the body integrated exhaust tailpipes. During the transmission of Sauber itself was developed, came as a motor again the V10 engine from Ferrari to use.

For Felipe Massa came as second driver Jacques Villeneuve the team. The Formula 1 World Champion of 1997, received a two-year contract.

Racing history

Had the race debut of the C24 in March 2005 at the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. In qualifying Jacques Villeneuve surprised with the fourth training result. In the adaptation of the individual time trial, he was only of Giancarlo Fisichella (Renault R25), Jarno Trulli (Toyota TF105 ) and Mark Webber ( Williams FW27 ) beaten. Felipe Massa did not manage timed lap and went from 18th place on the grid into the race. The Renne was not as successful; Massa was Twelfth and Thirteenth Villeneuve.

In the second race of the season, the Malaysian Grand Prix, Villeneuve could not repeat his strong performance in training from Melbourne and only reached the 16th rank qualification. He was going slower than team-mate Massa, who qualified 14th. In the race, Villeneuve fell after a spin and Massa finished tenth, received for this placement but no championship points.

The first points of the season scoring Massa at the Grand Prix of Bahrain with the seventh overall place. Jacques Villeneuve also had the chance to points for the drivers' world championship; Canadian collided but moreover laps from the Red Bull RB1 by David Coulthard as he tried to oust the Scots by an overtaking maneuver by the eighth.

After a convincing fourth of Villeneuve Grand Prix of San Marino at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, it was only at the Canadian Grand Prix back championship points, as well as Massa finished fourth in a race.

The second half of the season was a disappointing one for Sauber. The best rankings were the sixth courses of Villeneuve in Belgium and Massa at the last race of the year in China.

The Constructors' World Championship ended Sauber with 20 points in the eighth place overall.
