Saudi–Yemen barrier

The Saudi- Yemeni border fortifications were begun by a Saudi Arabia in December 2003 fixing along the border with Yemen to complicate weapons smugglers from Yemen to access. The course of the Saudi- Yemen border (including a 20 -kilometer-wide neutral zone as pasture for both sides) was defined in the Agreement of Jeddah.

However, living in Yemen Shiite tribe of Wayilah objected to the agreed course of the border and threatened to blow up the border fence. The strain compared the Saudi fence with Israel, claiming that the plants befänden 5 km on Yemeni territory.

In February 2004, the Saudi government stopped the construction work temporarily and agreed to joint border patrols with Yemen.

In 2009, Saudi Arabia began with the construction of an enhanced border security system, and erected a barbed wire fence along most of the 1,600 -kilometer border to fend off the influx of thousands of Shiite rebels and their supporters from Yemen.
