Sauer (Altenau)

On the eastern outskirts of foundation home passes under the Sauer this 2- arch bridge over the village street

Course

The sour rises in the southern part of Eggegebirge and Teutoburg Forest Nature Park / Eggegebirge in the city of Lichtenau. Your source is located northeast of the district Kleinenberg near the state road 763

Initially, the complete Teutoburger light Auer urban area and nature park forest / Eggegebirge and usually running on the Paderborn high surface oxygen flows about to the west, where they passed the little northerly ground monument Old railroad and then passes through the three located at Schonthal fish ponds. Thereafter they pass under after flowing through the nature reserve Sauerbachtal Bülheim ( NSG-Nr. 165 330 ), which was founded in 1938 and is about 49 hectares in size with a nearby pond at the Good Bülheim the federal road 68

Then the sour turns to the northwest and runs in the gently undulating plateau Soratfeld ( parched field) by the multi-part nature reserve Sauertal ( NSG-Nr. 319051 ), which was founded in 2000 and is about 927 hectares in size, and after flowing through a flood retention basin Sudheim by the light Auer core city. There she is again bridged by the B 68 and here leads a flowing stream coming from the east Odenheimer.

Then the sour bends between the non- located on their light district Iggenhausen Auer and Auer light district foundation to the southwest from home; between two villages empties about coming from the east, the Schmitt water. Shortly thereafter, it flows through foundation home and then crosses under the last time the B 68 then it flows southwestward to and through the light Auer district Ebbinghausen and leaves the nature reserve Sauertal.

Something along the through flow of situated below Ebbinghausen flood retention basins Ebbinghausen the sour opens directly north of the light Auer district Atteln at the swimming pool Naturbad Altenautal in the right -watered Alme inflow Altenau that is up there with 13.25 km flow distance much shorter than the Sauer.

Water management

In summer, large parts of the Sauerland are mostly dry. So seeps the creek behind Lichtenau. Due to the already mentioned Schmitt water discharges between foundation and home Iggenhausen, this leads to foundation home in summer water. At the outskirts of foundation home the water seeps again, so that they in the Altenau leads to the mouth no water. In the winter or when it rains the creek leads to the full length of water. When snow melt or rain the water level of oxygen is sometimes so high that you can go canoeing.

Flood

Especially in the summer of 1965 was the sour burst its banks and flooded large parts of it surrounding villages. As a result, two flood retention basin ( HRB) were constructed, which absorb excess acid water at high water: (built 1978-1980; 2.511 million m³ of storage space ) just above Lichtenau or from Good Sudheim the HRB Sudheim and slightly below Ebbinghausen the HRB Ebbinghausen ( 1974-1976; 2.38 million m³).

Watershed

The headwaters of the Sauer is on the Rhine -Weser watershed: This means that the oxygen that flows in a westerly directions, drained by the Altenau, Alme and lip into the Rhine, while the river that or Southeast on the east side of the ridge spring, flow over the Diemel or Nethe into the Weser.

Tributaries and catchment area

Among the tributaries of the Sauer, whose catchment area covers 109.627 km ² belong with orographic mapping (l = left side, R = right side), river length, including Mündungsort with Sauerbach kilometers and - if known - catchment size ( bach downward considered ) /:
