Saugeot

Saugeot is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Saugeot is located on 676 m above sea level. M., 23 km east-southeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on the high plateau of Champagnole Combe d' Ain between the west and the chains of the high Jura in the east, north of the creek Talniederung Sirene.

The area of 4.49 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Saugeot that. Average to 680 m above sea M. lies. To the west the gently undulating plateau is gently inclined. It is drained by the creek Sirene, which forms the south of Saugeot an open Talniederung, west to Ain. Northeast of the village there is a 40 m high step which leads on to another plateau. Here is 755 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Saugeot. The whole area is a loose structure of meadow and pasture, respectively woods. In the north, the border is always on the top of steep for Hérisson valley sloping hill.

To Saugeot include the hamlet of Le Puits (640 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau north of the Sirene Valley as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Saugeot are Menétrux -en- Joux in the north, east and south, and Bonlieu Uxelles and Denezières in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages the area of Saugeot the land of the Carthusian monastery Bonlieu belonged. The water power of the Sirene was used early on in the operation of a mill and a fulling mill. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To a field change occurred in 1823, when the previously independent Le Puits incorporated to Saugeot.

Population

With 52 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saugeot one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the 20th century (1886 191 persons were still counted ), a stagnation was recorded in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Saugeot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N78, which runs from Lons -le- Saunier to Saint -Laurent -en- Grandvaux. Further road links exist with Uxelles and Denezières.

Others

The Turkish national football team Mevlut Erdinç spent his youth here. He played in his youth at FC Saugeot.
