Saulieu

Saulieu is a commune with 2538 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy ( Bourgogne ).

Saulieu is primarily known as the site of public places of gastronomy.

History

In the region of Saulieu already existed in the Gallo- Roman period, a fortified settlement. The Franks built this settlement further. In the 12th century by the building of the Cathedral of St. Andoche, so the city became an important spiritual center.

During the 19th century and especially in the 20th century Saulieu developed into a site of numerous local upscale restaurants.
